Visitor Information
The Waimea Music Club - also known as the Waimea Country Music Club - was founded in 1990 to promote music and song in a friendly and supportive environment.
The club meets fortnightly on Sunday afternoons at 1.30pm in St. David's Presbyterian Church Hall, 11 Florence Street, Richmond, Nelson (unless otherwise advised). Please go to the News & Events page to see the list of upcoming events and club days.
Visitors may attend our club meeting days and any functions that the club organises as many times as they wish without having to become a member of the club. After a reasonable trial period, those wishing to be included on our programme on a regular basis should consider joining the club.
Club day admission charges for visitors are:
$1.00 for financial members of other music clubs
$2.00 for all other vistors
The club provides a backing band on club days. We recommend that those wishing to perform have chord sheets for the use of the band.
Club functions currently include an annual picnic, soup and muffin lunch, pot luck dinner and social, an annual visit with the Blenheim Orphans Club, and a Christmas barbecue. We also host the annual combined clubs day at which all the music clubs in the top of the South Island get together.
The Waimea Music Club is a registered charity and, from time to time, the club raises funds for worthy causes. The club entertains at rest homes and for other groups on request.

Nelson/Tasman Region
Nelson and Richmond are located at the top of the South Island of New Zealand, with Richmond situated within the Waimea Plains. Our combined urban population of over 54,000 typically enjoy New Zealand's highest sunshine hours.
The Nelson economy is primarily based on seafood, horticulture, tourism and forestry. Port Nelson is the biggest fishing port in Australasia.
The "father of nuclear physics", Lord Ernest Rutherford, was born here in 1871. Rutherford was a winner of the Nobel Prize and one of the greatest scientists of the 20th century.
The "father of Australian country music" was also born here. Robert William Lane - better known as Tex Morton - was born in Nelson in 1916. He was the top selling recording artist in Australasia in the 1930s, and in the 1950s was one of the most famous entertainers in North America.
Tex Morton's ashes were buried beside his parents at the Marsden Valley Cemetery, in Stoke, Nelson. The plaque marking his burial site is pictured below:
The plaque reads:
